Real-time Gesture Recognition for the Control of Avatar

چکیده
There are many attempts to use the gestures for the natural human computer interface. Most of systems use the tracking devices to capture the human motion and display. In this paper, we propose a gesture recognition system for natural interface between the participant and his own avatar in virtual environment only using two polhemus sensors attached on the arm. Our system has two modes for the control of avatar. One is tracking gestures. In this mode, tracking data is used only to simulating the motion of the participant’s one arm. The other is the interpretation of gestures. In the interpretation mode, the participant can make his avatar walk or run by the speed corresponding to the velocity of gesture and command his avatar to work properly by natural gesture. This gesture interpretation is done in real-time and may give an immediate response in virtual environments. Therefore, our system provides more natural interface in virtual environments by the gesture.

Affordance Gesture Input Motion Interpolation
An affordance gesture motion interpolation is proposed, using an intuitive wireless 6DOF gesture input device, which includes Magnetic, Angular Rate, and Gravity (MARG) sensors, and a user interactive 3D gesture control interface, for creating motion by pose interpolation, from Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) gesture recognizer algorithm. In this paper we demonstrate that user can create and control...

In this paper, we present an inertial sensor-based touch and shake metaphor for expressive control of a 3D virtual avatar in a virtual environment. An intuitive six degrees-of-freedom wireless inertial motion sensor is used as a gesture and motion control input device with a sensor fusion algorithm. The algorithm enables user hand motions to be tracked in 3D space via magnetic, angular rate, an...

Controlling Expressive Avatar Gesture by Francesca A. Barrientos Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley Professor John F. متن کاملReal-Time Control of a Remote Virtual Tutor Using Minimal Pen-Gestures
We present a distance tutoring system that allows a tutor to provide instruction via an animated avatar. The system captures pen-gestures of real tutor, generates 3D behaviors automatically, and animates a virtual tutor on the remote side in near real-time. The uniqueness of the system comes from the pen-gesture interface. We have done a study to test this interface. The system can effectively ...

Virtual actors moving through interactive game-space environments create rich streams of data that serve as drivers for real-time musical sonification. The paradigms of avian flight, biologically-inspired kinesthetic motion and manually-controlled avatar skeletal mesh components through inverse kinematics are used in the musical performance work ECHO::Canyon to control real-time synthesis-based...
